She Recites
The SheRecites Podcast is here! Join Jumana Moon and Anjum Kasmani as they meet with traditional female scholars, Quran reciters, devotional singers, poets, storytellers, drummers and more. The aim of this podcast is to archive the stories of amazing women working hard in the female Islamic devotional space, whose stories are often not known or heard about. This project hopes to inspire many women around the world to continue to have spiritual aspirations through hearing the stories of others who are walking in the same path, whether that be in a female only space or mixed. We hope to inspire new generations to also see such women as positive role models inshaAllah.

A passionate young Khadija has decided she wants to travel to Yemen to seek sacred sciences. It's a far cry from home in Scotland. How does she settle down into student life in the dessert? Why does she decide to stay for 5 years? And 5 years on, what are her favourite memories? Join Jumana and Anjum as they sit and discuss the life of a student of knowledge in Tarim, with Ustadha Khadija. This is part 3 of 3.

Quote of the Pod: "You need to have a thick skin to be in the field of calling people to Allah as a woman. Not everyone will be on board with you being in this space - including other women. I learnt how to have a thick skin in Tarim - in the field of learning and teaching. The spiritual path is about you and your connection with Allah but it is not only about you and Allah. It is about you and calling people to Allah....and you have to have a thick skin. Not everyone will be on your party bus. You will have your supporters but there will also be people who dont agree with you, your teachers and your tradition"

Quote of the Pod: "There's another side that people don't see or hear. They think "how do they do it all" - she must have so much support and it must be so smooth. But its the opposite. Its hard. Everything has a price. When you give your life to serving the community, that has a price. My family have had to sacrifice to me serving the community. I made adjustments to my lifestyle and schedule. But I am here and I made this lifestyle choice with the hope that it would give my kids and the community the best start and trajectory in life."
